The Centre held a seminar in February 2013 on Welfare: Its Definition, Measurement and Delivery. The speakers were Tim Hobbs from the SRU on the Concept of Welfare – definitions and measurements; Matthew Taylor, Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Arts, on Power Failure - what can compensate for the dissolution of traditional hierarchies and diminshing allegiance to civic institutions in the UK?; Martin Knapp, Professor of Ecomomics at the LSE on Economics and Welfare: an irreconcilable marriage or a political responsibility?; and Triin Edovald and Gretchen Bjornstad on a critical review of the latest ideas and developments concerning  reconciling welfare and economics – using the example of education.
